This month, Orion Astropreneur Space Academy (OASA) and Asian Academy of International Law (AAIL) will co-organise the inaugural event for the Space Law Lecture Series.

The July edition of ๐—ฆ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—•๐—ถ๐˜‡ ๐——๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ด๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜€ will explore the thriving space economy, specifically focusing on the increasing number of satellite launches and the crucial role now played by private enterprises in driving the once state-dominated sector. As the world ventures into the final frontier, legal and risk professionals are pivotal in shaping the trajectory of the new era of space commercialisation.

With the global space economy valued at over US$460 billion, the sector is experiencing remarkable growth. SpaceX's deployment of nearly 6,000 Starlink satellites into Earth's orbit within five years marked an unprecedented milestone in the history of satellite deployment.ย

This rapid expansion underscores the urgent need for robust legal and risk frameworks to regulate commercial space activities.

Please join us in-person or online for an insightful discussion on managing risks in space ventures.

During this event, we will๏ผš

  • Delve into the intricacies of the current regulatory frameworks that govern space activities
  • Learn about the allocation of liability and necessary protection in light of recent incidents, such as the space debris that struck a home in Florida, leading to a lawsuit against the US government.
  • Explore how space law promotes international cooperation and ensure responsible and sustainable space activities.ย
  • Learn how contracts and insurance policies regulate relationships, obligations and safeguards against risks in commercial space activities.
  • Gain valuable insights into how insurance can safeguard space dreams and ensure the financial viability of space ventures.
